Board member Gene MacDonald generously donated his small railroad museum and its contents to VHS, along with a railroad signal and “putt-putt” railcar displayed beside the building. The town gave us permission and, with generous volunteer support, we have now relocated the building, signal and railcar to an area adjacent to the current museum. Our goal is a three season museum space that will house interactive railroad displays.

Renovating the building entails interior and exterior repair and reconstruction, electrical installation, and a ramp to ensure accessibility. We are currently fundraising for this project and welcome any support. No donation is too small.

Our goal is to share the unique and historically important history of the transcontinental railroad and the role Vanceboro played, as a major U.S. point of entry. Below is a photo gallery of the building, car and signal in their original location, as well as the current railroad display in our museum, constructed with a selection of artifacts that will soon move into the new museum.

The current railroad display uses VHS museum photos with various select artifacts from the MacDonald collection. The new building will offer a great deal more exhibit space to share maps, additional artifacts and their stories, historical documents and the history of the Vanceboro station and yard.
